Kaohsiung Motor Vehicles Office (KOMV) continues to supervise and guide the autonomous management of the automobile transportation industry within its jurisdiction to enhance pedestrian safety. Efforts are being made to strengthen the compliance of drivers with traffic safety regulations, including the implementation of slow approach, stop, and confirmation actions at intersections. Additionally, periodic inspections are conducted in collaboration with the police at important intersections to identify and address non-compliance. In such cases, the relevant businesses are notified and provided with follow-up guidance for improvement.
Mr. Li, the Director of the KOMV, further explained that large vehicles (such as buses, tour buses, and trucks) have more blind spots, and accidents involving pedestrians often occur at intersections due to factors such as blind spots and differential rotation of the inner wheels. Therefore, all professional drivers are reminded to reduce their speed when approaching intersections, pause and perform confirmation actions before making turns, and yield to pedestrians to create a safe traffic environment and improve intersection safety.
During the consecutive holidays of the Dragon Boat Festival, there is an increase in traffic volume on the roads, and popular tourist attractions experience a surge in visitors and vehicles. Consequently, there may be congestion on connecting roads. The public is advised to avoid fatigue driving during long trips and to consider using public transportation to reduce the risks and casualties caused by fatigue driving.
As an example of public transportation to popular tourist destinations in southern Taiwan such as Hengchun and Kenting, the bus companies have implemented additional trips during the Dragon Boat Festival period. The "【9189】HSR Zuoying Station─Provincial Highway No.88─Xiaowan" (Kenting Express service ) now operates 60 trips daily, while the "【9188】Kaohsiung─Provincial Highway No.88─Eluanbi" and "【9117】Kaohsiung─Provincial Highway No.17─Kenting" adjust their schedules based on the tourist influx for efficient transportation. Detailed bus schedules and real-time arrival and departure information can be accessed through the "iBus" mobile app.
