Prerequisites:
1. Identification documents (Both original copy and one copy are needed.):
◆ Citizen who has the nationality of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) shall provide his/her national or military ID card.
◆ People who have foreign official driving license within the valid period (Allowed only for Citizens of Reciprocating Countries.) shall provide one of the following documents:
(1) Resident Certificate for Taiwan;
(2) A certificate of at least 6 months stay in Taiwan. (Apply after the immigration date.)
◆ People who have official driving license permitted by People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong and Macao within the valid period shall provide one of the following documents:
(1) Resident Certificate for Taiwan;
(2) A certificate of at least 6 months stay in Taiwan. (Apply after the immigration date.)
2. Three 1-inch full face photos taken within past 2 years prior to application. The photos shall be printed on glossy paper with a plain background, bareheaded shot, and please make sure the facial features are clear to identify.
3. Both the original copy and one copy of Passport are required.
4. Both the original copy and one copy of Official Valid Foreign driving license. (An application of document verification is necessary.)
5. An application form of regular driving license attached with qualified physical ability examination certificate. (The certificate of physical examination is valid for one year).
Notices:
1. All the foreign driving licenses except for English driving licenses are supposed to attach with Chinese translation which is authorized by one of the following foreign agencies:1. Embassies of Taiwan; 2. Representative Offices of Taiwan; or the verification of notary public.
2. Driving licenses issued by the People’s Republic of China are necessarily verified with the designated institutes or NGOs authorized by the Ministry of Executive, Taiwan. Furthermore, citizens of the People’s Republic of China are required to pass a written exam to obtain the driving license of Taiwan.
3. Driving licenses issued by Hong Kong and Macao are necessarily verified with the designated institutes or NGOs authorized by the Ministry of Executive, Taiwan.
4. Driving licenses issued by countries except for item 2 & 3 are necessarily verified with the Embassies of Taiwan, Representative Offices of Taiwan, and foreign institutes authorized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwan.
5. To exchange for Taiwanese driving license of motorcycles by valid driving licenses of motorcycles issued from the Reciprocating Countries, the regulations proposed by Ministry of Transportation Communication, Taiwan is followed. According to the regulations:If the driving license is NOT classified by the Engine Displacement or Horse Power of motorcycles, it is allowed to exchange for
(1) Driving License for General Motorcycles.
(2) Limited Driving License for Large Motorcycles (Engine displacement < 550 c.c.) with attached training certificate of Large Motorcycles above 32 hours but less than 43 hours.
(3) Driving License for Large Motorcycles (Engine displacement > 550 c.c.) with attached training certificate of Large Motorcycles at least 43 hours.
