  • Mini Electric Two-Wheel Vehicles Now Covered by Compulsory Insurance, Hefty Fines for Unlicensed Vehicles.
    • Hits:5

The new compulsory auto liability insurance regulations came into effect on November 30, 2022. Previously, compulsory insurance only applied to cars and motorcycles, but now "mini electric two-wheel vehicles" are also covered. In addition to the change in coverage, enforcement of compulsory insurance has expanded beyond traditional checkpoints. Cases of speeding, running red lights, reporting violations, and illegal parking captured by technological enforcement devices will be cross-referenced with the insurance database. If a vehicle is found to be uninsured, both the traffic violation and the lack of insurance will be reported, and fines will be issued.

The Kaohsiung Motor Vehicles Office (KOMV) announced that new mini electric two-wheel vehicles must be registered and licensed, and all existing vehicles must comply with the registration requirement within two years of the implementation of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, starting November 30, 2022. Therefore, from November 30 of this year, mini electric two-wheel vehicles without a license plate will face fines of up to NT$3,600.

Mr. Li, Director of the KOMV, urges all vehicle owners not only to ensure the continuous validity of their compulsory auto liability insurance but also to prioritize safe driving and adherence to traffic regulations to reduce accidents and provide the best protection on the road.
